2003 the year we met the World

Thursday, November 26th, 2009

Hello Friends. Happy Thanksgiving for sure… Flipping through NME website and came across the best albums of 2003. We got second that year only to the White Stripes best LP with Seven Nation Army on it, probably the most indelible song of the decade. I remember every album in the top 50 and it was fun to look through all of them. That year and the year after we played with almost all those bands somewhere or another. What a rush to be all over the world and on stages meeting people at parties and going on tour with friends and people that we would have otherwise met. Totally dizzying and fun and confusing all at the same time. I’m so glad to be part of all that back then and now.

Love and Light,

Random thoughts on the Beastie Boys first Lp and The MOthers of Invention, La La La

Tuesday, November 24th, 2009

Hello again compadres, amigos, fellow travelers and record nerds…

Tis the season to be jolly fa la, ok. So, this morning I was perusing Pitcforkmedia.com and I came across an article about the reissue of an album I used to listed to back when I was eighteen or so. Staunchly DC the Jawbox reissue. So I went to Lala and started listening to it and lo and behold I started on a bit of a musical jaunt, that covered Nation of Ulysses and ended up with the first three Mother’s of Invention records which I was mass into back in the day. I realize now that after having had the experience of listening to one of these records “Freak Out” in the presence of a woman that this run of records and Frank Zappa in general is more male than dare I say it, Rush, and offers nothing for the fairer sex. On the contrary another album that my sister loves, the first Beastie Boys record, both encapsulate something very well about teenage smart assness. The only difference is one is kinda sexy and the other one isn’t. That’s it in a nutshell I think.

Thanks for listening,

comments appreciated

Happy Thanksgiving America
