AKA JK “SOMEONE OUT THERE…” by Throne Of Blood

AKA JK is Jonathan Kreinik – aka Limozine Unlimited aka Tanline (1999-2002, not to be confused with Tanlines)- a musician, producer, engineer, DJ, remixer, photographer, and traveller from Washington, DC now living in NYC.

JK has been making electronic music and hiding it away since
the 80’s when he wasn’t quite 5 feet tall. Finally some of it started to surface after his long tenure as a live sound engineer.

It’s entirely possible you’ve visited and or seen this character in the form of engineer or producer on record sleeves by Trans Am, !!!, Out Hud, Measles Mumps Rubella, the Apes, the Make Up and Frodus, or on tour behind the mixing console with The Rapture, The Presets, Trans Am, Le Tigre, LCD Soundsystem, and a slew of other seminal underground bands.

2009 saw the release of two futurist electronic EPs under his own name on Swedish Columbia (“Darklight” and “Return To Precinct 13”) plus remixes of the long awaited MFA single “Throw It Back” (Border Community), as well as a critically acclaimed remix for Triobelisk’s “Xrystal Eyez” (Swedish Columbia).

AKA JK’s first release on Throne of Blood is a reflection of years in basements with sequencers, apartments with Macintoshes, van front seats with laptops, and international flights with Xanex and most importantly his long-standing friendship with the Rapture boys, culminating in this Vito Roccoforte-produced stinger. It’s a world-wide dedication to all his DJ friends who rock it out night after night, luring people from their broadband lives to sweat it out and transcend in clubs, bars, on beaches, and venues across the Planet.

Record Store Movie

Saturday, April 17th, 2010

I watched this movie and it brought up a lot of interesting ideas for me. While I agree with a lot of what this movie says I don’t agree with the idea that the internet is a bad thing for music/bands in general. For example there is some point where the drummer from the Black Keys is talking about how since a record store in Seattle played their records in the store they got about 150 people at their show back when they first started. You should ask the Arctic Monkeys how many people they got at their first shows from putting their music up on Myspace. One thing I did think was interesting was the idea of community, which along with record stores, happens at shows. Don’t get me wrong I love the record store as much as anyone, worked at a couple in my time, especially coming up and it was a right of passage and a paid opportunity to study music for hours on end that proved invaluable, plus all the music for free at my finger tips I could check out. However nowadays I can research things much more quickly and efficiently on the interweb…

Roots, Nirvana, the journey

Saturday, April 10th, 2010

Hello Buddies,

Luke here. Read a really good article today on Pitchfork about Twee and it got me thinking about Nirvana, and more specifically the roots of Nirvana. Then I figured that you could narrow it down to two People. Buzz Osborne/The Melvins and Calvin Johnson/K records/Beat Happening and bammo there you have it. This is a great place to start for anyone interested in modern west coast history or just straight up Indie Rock music history.

Beat Happening… bands attached

The Pastels
Vaselines and Just Scotland in general
Post Card ect…
garage rock, nuggets, blah blah blah

The Melvins…
Black Sabbath
Black Flag, where all west coast starts… SST
The Sweet (here is glam rock again on both sides)
Jello Biafra et al
the opposite of Thrash Metal, but not that far removed
Exodus, Metallica, Slayer… the unholy three

Anyhow, just some thoughts…

Your Boy,

Luke

PS. Ran into a friend of mine recently who put out the idea that back in the 90’s the only interesting places to live were Olypia, DC and San Diego, been hearing alot of that lately, check this facebook page out

The Nodzzz and Soft Pack

The Soft Pack, ‘Extinction’ from Russ Finkelstein on Vimeo.

Went to a pretty great show last night. It was the Beaters, Male Bonding, The Nodzz and Soft Pack. Unfortunately I was a little late and missed the Beaters. All the other bands were awesome though. Above are a videos of my favorite songs of said bands, respectively, yours, Vito.
