I forgot How good this record was

Monday, August 31st, 2009

One day, a long time ago, back in the early part of this ten year stretch. I lived with a boy named “Lucky” in a hallway. Lucky had a cat named Lucky that would pee on my bed and so to stop Lucky the cat I would put balloons on the bed, blue ones, I can’t seem to think why I remember the color being important. Anyhow, the cat used to pee on my bed anyhow, and especially when I left the balloons off. Anyhow, Lucky the boy had a box of tapes that he left out and I used to listen to them sometimes. I miss getting in other peoples stuff. Living on the road and sleeping on floors and in hallways, makes you feel like Woody Guthrie, who used to sleep on the floor even though he was offered a bed. He died at forty or something. Anyhow, besides Mothership Connection, which is freakin awesome, I used to listen to this record. Freewheelin’ Bob Dylan. With him and his then girlfriend blistering the streets of new york, or rather being blistered on the front. Anyhow, check out Hard Rain is Gonna Fall, try not to cry.

The Sweet

Dudes, and Firefighters, Friends

The Sweet are a good band. I know that Nirvana was big on them and I got turned on to them as to this by meeting Dale Crover from the Melvins and listening to this while driving around LA one day years back. It’s like Cheap trick but better. Like Queen with more compact songs and rediculous Glam production, even more funny than Gary Glitter. Party on hooligans.

MY favorite VS conventional thought

Yo Dudes and Dudettes,

Luke here checking in on some tasty record nerd stuff. Just listening to some of my favorite records and thinking about how I really like some records better than what the conventional wisdom says a certain bands best record is. Let me give you three examples. Ok, maybe four. Circa Now by Rocket From The Crypt, not Scream Dracula Scream. Radio Activity by Kraftwerk, not any of the other ones. A Catholic Education by Teenage Fanclub, not Bandwagonesque? The first OMD record, not Dazzleships. Ok so there it is all great records that are conventionally liked, I’m not gonna argue, this guy just likes those other ones better. Be your own judge, choose your own adventure, don’t worry to much, trust yourself.

Sebo Sushi

So this is our first food post on Rapture Randomness and I couldn’t think of a better place and food to start with other than Sebo. Every time I go to San Francisco now I try to eat there. I love Sushi and Sebo is some of the best I’ve ever had. Above is a video of Sebo featured on Anthony Bourdain’s No Reservations show.

Pavement and the army of the night

Sunday, August 9th, 2009

Hello Friends,

Thinking a lot about Pavement lately again. Talking to my friend Mike Henning who was in the mighty “Carpet” (Pavement name rip off) with me in San Diego. Remembering how much I loved that band, and how funny it is I ended up in New York. Talking to Gabe in the practice space about how he knows some people who used to hang out with those guys years ago, and reflecting on how much my life has changed. I still remember sitting in my driveway in La Mesa where I grew up playing wiffle ball and talking about how Pavement must be set for life because they were doing their first European tour and hoping that one day I could be as big as Rocket From The Crypt. That was fun. What great pop songs these guys wrote, and I don’t just mean Malcamus, I mean all of them together. The dude who yelled, the drunk drummer who would throw his sticks as high as he could every show, the moog sounding squggles on everything. I remember being on the water polo team and swiming around with Zurich Is Stained in my head the whole game and the Trigger Cut single in high school, cd single no less, just feeling like I had cracked some secret code or something about life. Like I finally got it or something. On into the night and here I am in New York, writing something that someone might care to read. Maybe someone in there driveway.

Love and Peace, Don’t give up your dreams as they say in Stepbrothers the movie…
