The Nodzzz and Soft Pack

Sunday, April 4th, 2010

The Soft Pack, ‘Extinction’ from Russ Finkelstein on Vimeo.

Went to a pretty great show last night. It was the Beaters, Male Bonding, The Nodzz and Soft Pack. Unfortunately I was a little late and missed the Beaters. All the other bands were awesome though. Above are a videos of my favorite songs of said bands, respectively, yours, Vito.

The Heavy

I caught the last minute of their performance on Letterman and was pretty impressed. Then I forgot their name and finally figured it out again. Here is the full video on Letterman. Pretty impressive, Letterman is a tough gig. I want to see them live. Apparently they are playing some shows with Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings. That should rule.

Hot Chip – I Feel Better

Hot Chip | MySpace Music Videos

Wow, I haven’t seen a music video I’ve loved this much in a long time. The song is excellent too.

Unwound

Sunday, February 21st, 2010

Man I loved this band so much when I was a kid. Now that I think of it that Fugazi, Blond Redhead, Unwound show totally altered the course of my life. Sometime in the mid 90’s. What a great drummer, what a great power trio, no slackers. Hardcore meet shoegaze in the best possible way, with somehow, black flag et al. thrown in.

Cracker Flashback

Sunday, January 31st, 2010

This song got stuck in my head a while ago and I couldn’t remember who it was. It drove me nuts then I remembered, Cracker. Song still holds up. Video really takes me back, Sandra Bernhardt…wow. I think I’m going to grow a ponytail and buy a pick up truck, again.

Ben White and Part Time Punks party Los Angeles California

Thursday, January 28th, 2010

Here is a party that my long time friend Ben White, ex-Go Go Go Airheart, has in Los Angeles. It’s pretty rockin’ I’m told. Above is a video of some pretty awesome bands playing a pretty awesome party.

Deadly Finns

Here is some music from one of my mentors in music, Mike Vermillion. I met this guy a long time ago in San Diego growing up when I had Billy Corgan hair, circa Gish, and he turned me on to all kinds of stuff like Gang of Four and PIL Metal Box and more obscure stuff like that. Also Happy Mondays and tons of other good bands that eventually influenced the crud out of me.

The Why Because

Thursday, January 28th, 2010

Here is some music from one of my best friends and original collaborators. We grew up in San Diego together and played a lot of Dungens and Dragons. Here is some of his music, it’s pretty nice stuff in my opinion. Their latest release is on tape only which suits his music quite well.
